Who's Who?

Immigration is always a hot topic in the United States because this country is quite the melting pot for thousands of diverse nationalities and cultures. But when I think about the illegal immigrants in the United States, I'm not quite sure how I feel. What I do know is that I want them to become legal citizens of the United States. I know that it is a long and tedious process, but when I see people such as my parents who immigrated here and became legal citizens, I demand that each immigrant go through the same process.

Though the effort one must put in to become an American citizen might be great, the ending result is beneficial to not just that one person, but also the entire nation. This argument over immigration doesn't look like it's going to be resolved any time soon. However, the idea that there are hundreds of people who are here illegally, crossing the borders and still being able to live their lives here...that agitates me slightly. Because I'm guessing there are groups of people who are waiting to become citizens and go through the documentation process and application, etc. to become a citizen.

Thus, when I read articles about immigration issues like the one going on in Arizona, I'm torn. I don't like the idea of racial profiling, but most of us do it - it's human nature. Racial profiling is wrong, no matter what, but illegal immigration needs to end eventually, right? One harsh reality is that people who are not legal immigrants are going to most likely be deported. I'm sorry...but get over it. If the government is trying to help YOU keep your rights and not have to share them with some illegal immigrant, I think that there shouldn't be TOO much of a fuss to provide legal documentation, etc. to show that you are really a citizen. It might seem like an infringement upon rights, but in the long run..perhaps it can benefit the nation as a whole? Then again, I don't think I'd like people barging through my door asking me if I was really an American citizen or not.

Remember, though a majority of the illegal immigrants publicized by the media are said to be Mexican/Hispanic, there are Asians and many other nationalities in that mix. So let's not be too stereotypical.
